Uganda Gorilla and chimpanzee trekking Permit Prices 2024: Gorilla trekking and chimpanzee trekking are the most popular safari activities in the republic of Uganda, these safari activities are carried out in Uganda’s most popular safari destinations.
But recently the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) increased the prices of gorilla and chimpanzee permits for the next two years.
Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) is a semi-autonomous Ugandan government agency that aims to conserve, manage and regulate Uganda’s wildlife and hence it is responsible for the listing of all park fees in the country.
in Uganda, Wildlife Reserves are managed by the Uganda Wildlife Authority under the supervision of the Ministry of Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities, UWA also manages National Parks, Community Wildlife Management Areas and Wildlife Sanctuaries
most could be asking why the fees were increased and so on, but the Uganda Wildlife Authority revised the costs of the permits to ensure the continued conservation of these endangered species.
As we all know there are two major safari destinations for gorilla trekking in Uganda which are Bwindi impenetrable in Kanungu districts with habituated families which can be accessed from four trailheads: Buhoma, Ruhija, Rushaga and Nkuringo. And Mgahinga Gorilla National Park in Kisoro district. Other destinations such as Kyambura Gorge, kibale national park, Ngamba Island and others where sightseers can carry out chimpanzee treks are now under increased prices for these activities to ensure more continued conservation of these endangered species.
The new conservation tariff will apply to all purchases of gorilla and chimpanzee trekking permits scheduled for trekking.
The notable changes to the new tariff for 2024-2026 are:
The price for a gorilla permit has been increased from USD700 to USD800 for Foreign Non-Residents. Foreign residents in Uganda will pay $700 for a gorilla permit. Citizens of the East African Community will pay UGX300,000 for a gorilla permit.
The price for a gorilla habituation permit at Bwindi National Park remains at $1,500 for Foreign Non-Residents. Foreign residents in Uganda will pay $1,000 for a gorilla habituation permit. Citizens of the East African Community will pay UGX750,000 for a gorilla habituation permit.
The price for a chimp permit for Kibale National Park is now $250, an increase from $200. And a chimpanzee habituation permit for Kibale National Park is now $300 from the previous $250.
the 2024-2026 tariff provides a price for the Rest of Africa (ROA) citizens, basically countries outside the East African Community block. The ROA citizens will pay $500 for the gorilla permit and $1,000 for a gorilla habituation permit.
