The 5 Days Mgahinga National Park and Lake Bunyonyi safari is an adventurous primate safari that will take you to Mgahinga gorilla national park in southwestern Uganda where you will be able to spend time with the endangered mountain gorillas and golden monkeys in their environment. The safari will also take you to Lake Bunyonyi which is the deepest lake in Uganda for an amazing boat ride and relaxation.

Detailed itinerary
Day 1: Pick up and transfer to Mgahinga gorilla national park
On the first day of your safari, you will be welcomed by our driver guide from Entebbe airport or your hotel, brief you about the safari and then start the safari to Mgahinga gorilla national park. It’s a whole day journey and on the way you will have a stopover at the Equator where you will take pictures and buy souvenirs.
From the Equator, you will proceed with another stopover for en-route lunch and then continue to Mgahinga national park. Upon arrival, you will check into the lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 2: Gorilla trekking experience
After an early breakfast on the second day of the safari, your driver guide will pick you up from the lodge with your packed lunch to transfer to the park headquarters for the briefing about the rules, regulations and expectations to follow during gorilla trekking.
After the briefing, you will be allocated a habituated gorilla family to trek and an experienced park guide and park rangers who are well conversant with gorilla trekking trails. Gorilla trekking in Mgahinga gorilla national park takes about 2 to 6 hours depending on where the gorillas are located because they like to move from one place to another in search of food.
Once the mountain gorillas are located, you will be allowed to spend one hour with them which helps you to learn more about their behaviors, watch them feed, breastfeed, groom young ones, take photos and record videos. After the one hour with the mountain gorillas, you will drive back to the lodge for an evening relaxation, dinner and overnight.
Day 3: Golden monkey trekking in Mgahinga national park
On the third day of the safari, you will have an early breakfast and meet up with your driver guide to transfer to the park headquarters for golden monkey trekking where after you will start trekking in the forest in search of the habituated golden monkeys following trails of leftover bamboo shoots, leaves among others.
Once the golden monkeys are located, you will be able to spend one hour with them which gives you a chance to watch them feed, play, jump up in tree branches, learn about their habits, take photos and record the breathtaking moments.
After golden monkey trekking, you will trek back to the starting point where you will meet up with your driver guide to return to the lodge for lunch where after you will spend the rest of the day at leisure, dinner and overnight.
Day 4: Transfer to Lake Bunyonyi, boat ride
On the fourth day of the safari, you will have breakfast at leisure, check out of the lodge and meet up with your driver guide to transfer to Lake Bunyonyi in Kabale which takes about 2-3 hours’ drive.
Upon arrival, you will go for a boat ride where you will be able to explore the 29 islands, enjoy views of the terraced farmlands, landscape, spot different bird species among others. After the boat ride, you will connect to the lodge for lunch where after you will spend the rest of the day at leisure relaxing at the lodge and engage in optional activities like nature walk, cultural tour, zip lining among others. Dinner and overnight.
Day 5: Departure to Kampala/Entebbe
After breakfast on the last day of the safari, your driver guide will pick you up from the lodge to start the journey back to Kampala with en-route lunch on the way. Upon arrival, your driver guide will drop you off at Entebbe international airport for your departure flight or drop off at any place of advise.
