Detailed Safari Itinerary
Day 1: Transfer to Volcanoes national park
Kigali to Volcanoes national park: On day 1 of 7 days Rwanda primates (Gorilla trekking & chimpanzee trekking) safari, you will be welcomed by our company representative who is yet your safari driver/guide throughout this 1 week adventure in Rwanda. You will either be picked up at a hotel in Kigali or direct from Kigali international airport upon landing and embark on a drive to Volcanoes national park where you will spend your 1st night ready for the next day’s excursion with endangered mountain gorillas.

Day 2: Mountain gorilla trekking in Volcanoes national park
Rwanda gorilla trekking: After breakfast on day 2 of 7 days Rwanda primates (Gorilla trekking & chimpanzee trekking) safari, pack some snacks, drinking water and wear an appropriate gorilla trekking gear ready for a challenge of trekking endangered mountain gorillas in their natural habitats with in Volcanoes national park. You will join other trekkers for a briefing about gorilla trekking, dos and don’ts and many other necessary information after which you will be led into the forest to start the search of these endangered mountain gorillas as they roam the forest in search of food. With the group of 8 people which is the agreed maximum number of trekkers allowed to trek a particular gorilla family daily, you will be guide by armed rangers as you walk via different trails till you encounter with gorillas. Spend 1 hour with gorillas and later on exit the forest back to your lodge for a relaxed evening or have an option of cultural tour to Ibyiwacu cultural village where you will spend time interacting with the locals with in this village. Return to your loge for dinner and night sleep.

Day 3: Hike Dian Fossey’s Grave
Hike Dian Fossey’s Grave: After enjoying breakfast at your lodge on day 3 of 7 days Rwanda primates (Gorilla trekking & chimpanzee trekking) safari, head out for a hike to visit the Grave of Dian Fossey situated along Karisoke research center. Dian fossey was an American primatologist who had dedicated her life to protect and preserve mountain gorillas. Unfortunately, she was murdered by poachers and her body was laid to rest on her research center between Mount Karisimbi and Mount Bisoke thus a hike to visit her grave rewards hikers with a view of these volcanoes. Being a 1 day’s adventure, you will ascend and descend back to your lodge for lunch, check out and set off on a drive back to Kigali city for overnight.

Day 4: Transfer to the Nyungwe forest national park
Drive from Kigali to Nyungwe forest national park: After breakfast on day 4 of 7 days Rwanda primates (Gorilla trekking & chimpanzee trekking) safari, check out of the hotel in Kigali and b driven to Nyungwe forest national park with a stopover at the Museum in Butare to get a glimpse about the past of Rwanda’s history and culture. After this excursion, enjoy an enroute lunch and proceed to Nyungwe forest national park where you will check in your lodge for inner and night rest.

Day 5: Chimpanzee trekking and Canopy walk in Nyungwe forest national park
Chimpanzee trekking and Canopy walk: Enjoy your breakfast on day 5 of 7 days Rwanda primates (Gorilla trekking & chimpanzee trekking) safari then pack enough water for drinking to keep you hydrated during the forest, pack some snacks and wear your appropriate gear including waterproof hiking boots, long sleeved attire, garden gloves, a cap, sun glasses and pack an insect repellant among others. You will then be driven to the briefing grounds where you will join other trekkers, rangers and local guides available for hire. After briefing, penetrate the forest to search for the chimpanzees in their habitat. The trek lasts about 2-5 hours with only 1 hour of closely viewing chimpanzees, taking photographs and many more. Exit the forest back to your lodge for lunch.
Later in the afternoon, you have a canopy walk where you will walk on well designated canopy while viewing plenty of forest dwellers including primates, mammals, birds and different plant species among others.

Day 6: Drive back to Kigali and visit Genocide Memorial Sites
Genocide memorial sites tour: After breakfast on day 6 of 7 days Rwanda primates (Gorilla trekking & chimpanzee trekking) safari, check out of the loge and be driven back to Kigali city with a stopover at King’s palace. Expect to arrive in evening and have a visit to Genocide Memorial sites that were put in place to commemorate the several thousands of Rwandese that lost their lives during the 1994 genocide.

Day 7: Departures
Departures: After breakfast on day 7 of 7 days Rwanda primates (Gorilla trekking & chimpanzee trekking) safari, check out of the lodge and be driven direct to Kigali international airport for departures.
