Detailed itinerary of 6 Days Rwanda Safari “Wildlife, Gorillas & Chimps Tracking”
Day 1: Transfer to Akagera National Park
Following a delicious breakfast at your hotel in Kigali, you will be picked up by your safari driver guide – a representative of Focus East Africa Tours and set off on a drive out of Kigali city heading to Akagera national park, the only savannah park in Rwanda. You will arrive in the park in time for lunch at your lodge, rest for a while and in later go for an evening game drive looking for animals such as Elephants, Gazelles, Antelopes, Buffaloes, Giraffes, Impalas, Leopards, Zebras, Bush Babies, Topis and Baboons among others. You will return to your lodger for dinner and overnight.

Day 2: Game drive and boat ride on Lake Ihema
Have a cup of coffee or tea in the morning then set out for a game drive in the savannah plains of Akagera national park which is the best opportunity to catch glimpse of early risers and predators as they return from hunting. Animals you will be able to see include lions, leopards, elephants, African wild dogs, zebras, cape buffaloes, Antelopes, giraffes among others. You will return to your lodge for a full breakfast and relaxation as you wait for lunch, in the afternoon you will head to Lake Ihema for a boat cruise looking out for crocodiles and hippos and various bird species such as the king fisher, the uncommon shoebill stork and the fish eagle among others. In the evening you will return to your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 3: Transfer to Nyungwe Forest National Park
After breakfast, you will exit the Akagera national park and head to Nyungwe Forest national park a home to primates including the biggest population of chimpanzees in Rwanda through Rwanda, along the way to the park you will visit various tourist attractions such as the traditional Rwanda King’s Palace found in Nyanza and the Cultural Museum in Butare. Then drive through the hilly countryside past the tea fields scattered with tiny wooden houses to Nyungwe. On arrive you will check in and in the evening have dinner and stay overnight.

Day 4: Chimpanzee tracking and transfer to Kibuye
Have breakfast and head to the park for a chimpanzee tracking experience, you will head to the park’s headquarters for briefing about the rules and regulations to follow when in the presence of chimpanzees. Then a forest ranger will guide you through the various forest trails, the tracking takes about 3 -5 hours with one hour of being in presence of chimpanzees watching them play on tree branches and playing with each other. Then return to your lodge for lunch then check out in the afternoon and drive to Kibuye, a town found on Lake Kivu shores. On arrival you will have dinner and stay overnight.

Day 5: Gisenyi and Ruhengeri
Have breakfast and depart from Kibuye town and drive to Ruhengeri through Gisenyi, this scenic drive will unveil to you the beautiful country side of the Kayoye and Gisovu tea growing regions. On arrival in Ruhengeri, you will check into your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 6: Mountain Gorilla Trek in PNV
Have early breakfast and head to the park’s headquarters for a briefing session by 08:00 am, the head guide will take you through the rules and regulations to follow during the experience, you will then be grouped into 8 and be assigned a gorilla group to trek.

Gorilla trekking takes about 2—7 hours basing on the movement of the gorillas and where they spent the last night, you will spend one hour in the presence of mountain gorillas as you learn about their movement and behavior and watch them play with each other and collect fruits. After the trekking you will head back to your lodge for lunch and then checkout and drive to return to Kigali city for a drop off either at the hotel for dinner and overnight.
