African Lion (Panthera Leo)

The African Lion, is the most sociable of the large cats, living in loosely structured feelings of pride of 5 to 15 animal species. Uganda lions are mainly found in three largest savannah parks which are; Kidepo Valley, Murchison Falls, Queen Elizabeth and Lake Mburo National Parks. In Queen Elizabeth National Park is also home to the rare tree climbing lions – Ishasha tree -climbing lions which are inhabit is Ishasha sector. The African Elephant ‘’ Loxodonta Africana’’

This is the biggest land mammal and in Uganda there are two types of African elephants; the savannah African elephant which can be seen on safari game drives in Kidepo Valley, Murchison Falls and Queen Elizabeth National Park.  The African forest Elephant is rarely seen in Uganda but lives in Kibale Forest and Bwindi Forest National Park

Leopard ‘Panthera pardus’

These are the most elusive animals and one of the African big 5 animals.

Leopards are sneaky and harder to see and naturally shy. Leopards are exclusively nocturnal and spends many daylight hours hidden.

They are solitary big cats haul large kills such as the antelope.

They are present in most of Uganda National Parks and forest reserves.

They can be spotted in Toro- Semliki Wild Reserve, Mount Elgon National Parks, Kidepo Valley, Lake Mburo, Murchison Falls, Queen Elizabeth National Park, Kibale Forest and others.

African Cape Buffalo

This African cape Buffalo is one of the most dangerous animals to come across.

The best time to see this animal is; morning, Afternoon or overnight game drive while on a game safari in Uganda.

They have no predators a part from the real brave and hungry.

African cape buffaloes can be seen in Kidepo Valley, Queen Elizabeth, Kibale forest many more.

Rhinoceros

Rhinoceros are herbivorous mammals identified by its characteristic horned snouts.

Rhino is ‘’a Greek word’’ – Rhino ‘nose’ and ceros ‘Horn’s.

They are universally recognized by their massive body’s stumpy legs and either one or two dermal horns.

They have poor eyesight but their senses of smell and hearing respectively.
