Bwindi Forest National Park Uganda entrance fees are the fares levied on each traveler who accesses the park for different activities in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. Bwindi Forest National Park is a prime Ugandan national park located in the southwestern part of Uganda, covering a total area size of 331 square kilometers.

Bwindi Forest National Park borders the Virunga Mountains of the Democratic Republic of the Congo to the west and is only about 29 km south of Kabale town, the nearest town to the park. Bwindi Forest National Park Uganda is regulated and protected by the Uganda Wildlife Authority, a body mandated to do so for all the national parks of Uganda.

Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is one of the most visited national parks of Uganda, with travelers interested mostly in the endangered mountain gorillas that inhabit the park. Bwindi Forest National Park is one of the only four destinations in the world to host the endangered mountain gorillas, with the other destinations being Mgahinga Gorilla National Park of Uganda, Virunga National Park of the Congo and Volcanoes National Park of Rwanda.

Bwindi Forest National Park, Uganda, however, hosts the highest gorilla population, with over half the total world population being found only here. Apart from mountain gorillas, which travelers encounter on gorilla trekking safaris in Bwindi, other wildlife in the park include elephants, chimpanzees, black-and-white colobus monkeys, bush pigs, bird species, butterfly and plant species, among so many others, that tourists can encounter and experience on various activities like bird watching, nature walks, and gorilla habituation experiences, among so many others.

To regulate the number of travelers accessing the park, as well as raise funds for conservation and protection of nature and wildlife, the Uganda Wildlife Authority levies fees on all national parks of Uganda. Individual Bwindi Forest National Park, Uganda, entrance fees

Before we look at the individual Bwindi Forest National Park, Uganda, entrance fees, some important notes include the following:

  • Entrance fees are independent of package activities like gorilla trekking, bird watching, and others.
  • All visitors are required to present valid identification documents to confirm their resident status
  • A day’s entrance ticket is valid for only 24 hours from time of entrance
  • Extra time spent in the park after the 24 hours have elapsed is considered and charged as an extra day
  • All fees are quoted in US$, standing for the United States Dollar, as well as UGX, to stand for Ugandan Shillings
  • Persons below 5 years are exempt
  • Children are the persons that are 5-15 years of age
  • Tariff fees are subject to change without prior notice

It is also important to note that entrance fees are charged based on the resident status of the traveller say foreign non-resident, foreign resident and East African citizens. Individual Park entrance fees are as below:

Adults are charged $40 for foreign non-residents, $30 for foreign residents and ugx20000 for East African citizens as their individual park entrance fees.

Children pay $20 for foreign non-residents, $10 for foreign residents and ugx5000 for East African citizens as their individual park entrance fees.

The abovementioned are paid per day. Travelers interested in paying annual park entrance fees so as to access the park at any time can opt for this. This is, however, only available for foreign residents who pay $350 per person and East African citizens who pay UGX 150000 per person per year, only.

Foreign non-residents do not qualify for this annual Bwindi Forest National Park, Uganda, entrance fees option. Foreign residents need to present a work permit that is valid for at least 1 year to qualify for an annual park entrance fees pass.

A foreign resident couple can pay $500, while an East African citizen couple pays UGX 200000 for an annual pass. A family with a maximum of four children pays $700 for foreign residents, while an East African citizen family pays only UGX300000 as annual Bwindi Forest National Park Uganda entrance fees.

An annual corporate pass to Bwindi Forest National Park for foreign residents is $1500 and for East African citizens it is UGX 2500000 only.

A safari guide and a taxi driver are charged UGX100000 as annual Bwindi Forest National Park, Uganda, entrance fees. Tour company drivers, however, have free passes to access Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.

Vehicles, aircraft, boats, and motorcycles are also charged landing and entrance fees to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, per entry as seen below:

Motorcycles with foreign registration pay $30, while those with a Ugandan registration plate pay $5 only per entry.

Saloon cars with foreign registration and number plates are charged $40, while those with a Ugandan registration and number plate pay $10 only.

Tour company vehicles with 4WD that are foreign-registered pay $150 per entry, while those that are Ugandan pay only $15.

Aircraft landing fees remain the same irrespective of resident status and registration, and fees are paid per landing as may be seen below.

3-seater aircrafts are charged $20 as the park entrance fees per landing.

4-6 seater aircrafts pay $30

7-14 seater is charged $40

15-20 seater charged $50

A 21-seater and above is charged $60 per landing, while helicopters with foreign registration are charged $100 and those with Ugandan registration are charged $125.
