A gorilla trekking permit in both Uganda’s Bwindi Impenetrable national park and Mgahinga gorilla national park costs USD700 per person for foreign nonresidents, USD600 per person for foreign resident and UGX250,000 per person for East Africa Citizens. Visitors who may wish to engage in gorilla habituation experience, permits costs USD1,500 per person for foreign nonresidents, USD1,000 per person for foreign residents and UGX750,000 for East African citizens.

How many gorilla trekking permits are available in Uganda?
There are about 160 gorilla trekking permits that are available for visitors daily thus making Bwindi the most famous and visited safari destination for gorilla trekking on African continent. However, Bwindi Impenetrable national park is a home of about 21 habituated gorilla groups and two gorilla families in Mgahinga Gorilla national park. Both with same rules and regulations. Visitors your advised to book your Bwindi gorilla trekking in advance of 3 to 6 months before the trekking date especially during dry season in the months of June to Mid –September and December to February. Because during dry season the gorilla permits are on high sell and so competitive sold out quickly. Gorilla trekking experience –Uganda Safaris
Gorilla trekking is the most adventurous and most done activity on Uganda safaris where visitors have to hike into the tropical rainforest in search of the mountain gorillas. An activity which can take 30 to 7 hours searching for the mountain gorillas and once gorillas are found one hour is given to you to spend with them in their nature habitat. Gorilla trekking in both destinations starts early in the morning with a briefing about rules and regulation to follow during trekking .After briefing you will be grouped in a group of eight people where each group will be allocated to a gorilla family he or she assigned in to trek and you will be accompanied by the guide who is well conversant with trails in the jungle .Taking part in gorilla trekking bases on different factors like age ,personal preference and physical fitness .Therefore in case you are not physically fit you are advised to communicate with your driver guide to book for you a gorilla family that is near your accommodation stay in the park.
Gorilla trekking can take about 30 to 7 hours while trekking, as you will be able to view different wildlife species including mammals like forest elephants, buffaloes, small primates like black and white colobus monkeys, chimpanzee, L’Hoest monkey, red tailed monkey, blue monkeys, notable bird species, tree species and plant species many more.
