Chimpanzee Forest Lodge lies at the edge of Kibale National Park and takes only 22 kilometers from Fort Portal on the Kamwenge Road. More so, the lodge sits on well–manicured lawns, beautiful gardens, green pastures, tea plantations, and an indigenous forest. While on a visit, you will be able to enjoy the perfect panoramic vistas of Kibale National Park‘s ancient crater lakes and the Rwenzori Mountains.
More so, the lodge was formerly a residence of the British district commissioner in the 1950s, during Uganda’s colonial period, and later was innovated and turned into a Guest House in 2003 and maintained ever since.
Guests on stay can relax in a comfortably furnished lounge that features a perfect collection of colonial African literature dating back to the year 1800s. More to that, Chimpanzee Forest Lodge offers beautifully furnished self-contained cottages ‘’Bandas’’ with a spectacular view of Kibale Forest National Park and the surrounding Tea plantations as well as the crater lake. The lodge has hot showers in western style bathrooms.
The lodge is comprised of 7 spacious cottages and they are all supplied with Wi-Fi. All cottages are constructed facing the primate kingdom of the world. The rooms are fully furnished and self-contained with warm amenities. They provide a view that passes beyond Kibale Forest to the Rwenzori mountain ranges. In the evening and morning, you can enjoy the forest’s beauty as it gets covered with a misty cloud in the cold morning.

Activities Offered at Chimpanzee Forest Lodge;
Tea plantations
Tourists on their stay at Chimpanzee Forest Lodge can take a walk of about 1 to 2 hours walking through the tea plantation field and join the locals harvesting the tea and care at the nursery beds. This is truly an experience where the locals try to teach and explain the whole process of growing and harvesting tea. Visitors can learn about different types of tea and their gestation periods. The tea plantation can be done on request and be organized by guides to take a visit to the nearby tea factory.
Birding Experience
This is an interesting activity that takes around 2 to 3 hours from Chimpanzee Forest Lodge. However, birding can be done around the three crater lakes to point out spots for birds. Beautiful bird species to view including the waterbirds too. Birds to see; woodland kingfishers, blue-breasted giant kingfishers, turacos, black and white casqued hornbills, crowned hornbills, and malachite kingfishers among others.
Crater Lake Exploration
Along your visit to the lodge for your comfortable stay, you can take a walk of about 2 to 3 hours, walking through the community, getting a chance to interact with the locals in the area as you hike to the three crater lakes namely; Lake Nyinabulitwa, Lake Nyamirima, Lake Nyabikere while guided with well-skilled guides who will explain the history and background of the craters and how important they are to the community. While ion-site, you will be allowed to take memorable photography because of the spectacular views.
