- This mountain gorilla hub is located at the very edge of the Western Rift Valley in southwestern Uganda.
- The park which sits on an area of 331 sq kilometers, is a UNESCO Heritage Site. One of the many in Uganda
- Bwindi Impenetrable National Park was designated as a protected area in 1964 for the endangered mountain gorillas and established as a national park in 1991.
- 2 years later in 1993, in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, mountain gorilla trekking was started in the park as a way to support the mountain gorilla conservation efforts.
- Bwindi Impenetrable National Park lies on an altitude range of 2607m-1160m; The ranges are between Rwamunyonyi peak and the Ishasha Gorge.
- Bwindi Impenetrable National Park has the highest number of gorillas in the region with about 400 individuals currently living in the park, the animals are spread out in the four sectors of the park.
- The park has over 19 habituated gorilla families that trekkers can visit all year round.

- Bwindi Impenetrable National Park has over 200 African rainforest tree species that make up the impenetrable forest that is also home to the mountain gorillas.

- Bwindi Impenetrable National Park on a yearly basis receives approximately 1500mm of rainfall making it a water catchment area that feeds five rivers, which rivers flow into Lake Albert.
- Among the mountain gorilla parks in the region, Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is the only park that has both mountain gorillas and chimpanzees in the same habitat. The other mountain gorilla parks in the region are Volcanoes National Park in Rwanda, Virunga National Park in the democratic republic of Congo and Mgahninga National Park also in Uganda.
