Gorillas in Congo
Gorillas in Congo are one of the biggest tourist attractions that entice tourists from all over the world to come and engage in Gorilla Trekking and habituation. Congo is one of the countries that inhabit the Mountain Gorillas in Africa, that are well known in the world for having more monkeys on their premises. This is because Congo inhabits the famous mountain gorillas. Within the premises of the Democratic Republic of Congo, mountain gorillas can only be found in Virunga National Park and this park is totally a UNESCO heritage site.
Virunga National Park is located in the eastern part of the Democratic Republic of Congo and it borders with Uganda and Rwanda. The park is situated in a province of North Kivu and it covers approximately 800 square miles. The park is a home of approximately 200 gorillas and these mostly leave in the southern part of Virunga national park.
Virunga national park has six tracking gorilla families and the number of gorillas in Virunga national park is not well known, though according to the last census the results came out showing that the park has over 100 gorilla individuals in its enclosed grounds. The gorilla families in Congo include Munyaga Family, Kabirizi Family, Lulengo Family, Humba Family, Mapuwa Family, and Rugendo Family.
Where to find gorillas in Congo, when one talks about gorillas tracking, gorilla tracking is also of the big and successful activity that is carried out in the grounds of Virunga national park and it has left a big and visible trace in the line of tourism not forgetting its rules that are found in this place governing them. There are strict rules that were laid down for the trackers and some of these include the number of people trekking. This was put in place to protect the most endangered animals and since also gorillas easily contract diseases from humans
While trekking gorillas in Congo, it can take up to 6 hours and more but once you encounter the gorillas you are allowed only 1 hour to engage and take photos as you observe their behavior.
The gorillas in Congo have really enabled the Virunga Authorities to make enough revenue to boost the countries growth as quite a large number of tourists are attracted to come to Virunga and money is generated from their payments at hotels, at the park and every sector they reach out to for services. This has enabled DRC to be able to improve the livelihood of its natives. Not only do people go to explore Gorillas in Congo, but there are other attractions that have internationally grabbed attention like the Mount Nyiragongo which is one of the most active volcanoes in the world.
Other countries that inhabit gorillas in Large numbers include Uganda which boasts of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and Mgahinga Gorilla National Park and Rwanda which boasts of Volcanoes National Park for gorillas.
