History of Jinja;
The location of Jinja City was of no particular significance till 13,000 years ago when a shift in the tectonic plates underlying the western Rift Valley relocated the outlet of Lake Victoria. The event also caused the beautiful natural granite rock to partially block the flow of water out of the lake. The local people referred the granite ‘’ejjinja’’, which means ‘stone’ in Luganda. This is where the modern Jinja City got its name.
