Uganda Increases Gorilla Permits from 2024 -2026 : Fortunately, there has been an increment on Uganda gorilla permits handled by governmental body named as ‘’UWA’’ Uganda Wildlife Authority. Uganda Wildlife Authority have revised the gorilla permits prices for the next two years. The letter was issued on 17th January 2024, showing that Uganda Wildlife Authority confirmed that from the 01st July 2024 – 30 June 2026, Uganda Gorilla Permit was increased effectively.

What Are Gorilla Permit?
Gorilla permits are authorization document that permits guests to track the gorillas. The gorilla permits allow countries to control the amount of visitors –visiting the mountain gorillas. The permit given to you allows to spend one hour with the gorillas.
The length of the trek may vary from 30 to 7 hours, depending on the movement of the mountain gorillas in their natural inhabitant. In Uganda, the gorilla permits apply to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, home to over 23 habituated gorilla families, one of which is only visited as part of the Gorilla Habituation Experience.
The Uganda gorilla permit also apply to Mgahinga National Park, which has one habituated gorilla family for gorilla trekking safaris.
What is a gorilla habituation permit?
Uganda gorilla habituation permit allows you to take part in gorilla habitation process which can be 1 to 3 years. The moment park rangers notice that a group of gorillas is used to presence of people. It’s the reason why the process is known as habituation. Gorilla habituation is essential for gorilla tourism, where you get to spend four hours with a family of gorillas as opposed to the one hour for regular Uganda Gorilla Treks.

Below are new costs for Uganda Gorilla trekking and Uganda Gorilla Habituation costs from the 01st July 2024 – 30th June 2026;
Uganda Gorilla Trekking Permit price 1st July 2024 – 30th June 2026;
A single gorilla permits now costs USD800 per person for foreign nonresident, USD700 per person for foreign resident, USD500 per person for Rest of Africa and UGX300,000 for East African Citizen.
Gorilla Habituation Permit Price from 1st July 2024 – 30th June 2026
A single Uganda gorilla habituation permit costs USD1500 per person per day for foreign nonresident, USD1000 for foreign resident, USD1000 for the Rest of Africa and UGX750,000 East Africa Citizen.
Take note; Any permits bought before 30th June 2024 for safaris after the 01st July 2024 will not be subject to the new price increase. To any rescheduled Uganda gorilla permit purchased for at the old rates where the new rescheduled date will be after the 01st July 2024 – subject to the new price increase.
What Does the Uganda Gorilla Permit Cover?
The Uganda gorilla permit cover only a one hour with the gorillas. It excludes accommodation, air tickets, ground transport, meal and park activities fees.
Why Is the Gorilla Permit Expensive?
Gorilla permit is expensive because they are protecting them from overcrowding of many humans.
It is also put on a high price so as to limit some people from trekking them as well as avoiding overexploitation and exceeding the carrying capacity of Gorilla National Parks. Currently, in the wild there are about 1100 mountain gorilla’s individuals left. They can only be found in Uganda, Rwanda and Democratic Republic of Congo.
How Many Gorilla Permits Are Available in Uganda?
There are currently around 176 gorilla permits available per day. Uganda’s gorillas are divided between the habituated gorilla families in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park ‘’23 gorilla groups’’ and Mgahinga Gorilla National park has two gorilla families.
