Bwindi Impenetrable Forest Animals – Uganda Gorilla Trekking Safaris
Bwindi Impenetrable Forest Animals; The park has wide range of animals though great mountain gorillas dominate the biggest percentage of animals in Bwindi thus making it the top visited destination Uganda safaris because of the big number of gorillas. Other animals to see in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest include elephants, duikers, buffaloes, golden cats, bush pigs, giant forest hogs, black-fronted Duiker, yellow-backed duiker, Civet, Side-striped jackal, numerous bats and rodents.
Gorillas; Bwindi hosts the largest population of mountain gorillas in the entire world, estimating 600 individuals. Gorillas are the most sought species than other animal’s species in Uganda’s national park. As we see thousands of people flock in here to encounter these unique species, just like humans, you will also enjoy their stunning intelligent lifestyle and they share over 97% DNA to human’s genes. Bwindi’s gorillas are all habituated and are known individually by the rangers through identifying them. However, there are several gorilla families ‘’21’’ in the park which are divided in four gorilla sector of Buhoma, Ruhija, Rushaga and Nkuringo sector. Each gorilla family is led by a male silverback who take off the territory of the group.
Other Forest Species; Bwindi Impenetrable Forest also a home of over 120 mammal species such as elephants, buffaloes, golden cats, bush pigs, duiker among others ,11 primate’s species to see here they include; black and white colobus, L’Hoest monkeys, baboons and chimpanzees, over 200 butterfly species and over 42 endemics to the Albertine Rift.
Birds; Bwindi Impenetrable Forest is also a birding hoven where birders can have their birding experience on Uganda birding safari. The park estimates around 350 bird species with 23 endemic Albertine Rift and 14 species are recorded not elsewhere in Uganda. The globally threatened species are African Green Broadbill and Shelley’s Crimson wing among others. List of birds to see in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest including ;Common Bulbul ,African Emerald cuckoo ,African blue ,Fly catcher , Kiev gerund thrush ,Giant kingfisher ,Crowned hornbill ,Cinnamon-chested bee eater ,African green pigeon ,African harrier hawk, White tailed blue ,Neumann’s warbler ,Regal sunbird ,Handsome ,francolin ,Grauer’s broadbill ,Blue-headed sunbird ,Black faced warbler ,Black bee –eater ,African broadbill ,Purple-breasted sunbird , Yellow streaked greenbul ,Western green tinker bird ,Ruwenzori apalis among others .Birding in Bwindi is done along the main trail , Bamboo Zone ,Buhoma waterfall Trail ,Mubwindi Swamp Trail Ruhija among others. Best birding time starts in the month of March to May and October to November, because food can be in abundance and in November best time to see migratory bird species.
Best Time for Animal Viewing in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest
The best time for gorilla trekking is in dry seasons of June to Mid-September and December to February. Within dry seasons trekking trails can be dry and easy to access but bit challenging in rainy season which occurs in March to May and September to November, because hiking trails can be slippery, also roads impassable. Therefore, always consider the best time to go for Gorilla trekking. Bwindi Impenetrable Forest national park is open throughout the year.
However, Bwindi Impenetrable Forest national park is the top visited safari destination on Uganda’s safaris, because of being a home to the rare mountain gorillas and half world’s population of gorilla. The park sits in the southwestern region of Uganda, covering an area of about 321 squarer kilometers, estimating a full day travel from Kampala or Entebbe. Travelers who prefer traveling short distances, you can book a flight from Kajjansi Airstrip or Entebbe international Airport to Kihihi Airstrip in only 1:15hours to access the park. There is an arrangement of scheduled or charted flight that runs to and from to Kihihi airstrip. Booking a domestic flight can be helped by the tour operator.
