Chimpanzee Trekking Tour 2024 – 2025 : Kibale National park is famously known as the capital of primates, located in southwestern Uganda region, home rich with over 1500 chimpanzee individuals out of the total population of about 5000 individuals. Furthermore, Kibale forest is a tropical rainforest that harbors quite a number of wildlife species that have attracted many visitors to visit Uganda. This park has contributed widely in Uganda’s tourism industry because it harbors some endangered species that catch the visitor’s eye. Chimpanzees are primates which are said to have 98% of their DNA with human beings and have been habituated in Kibale forest National Park.
Chimpanzee trekking is the most visited activity by travelers who visit the park, where you’re given an hour to spend with chimps. For there is an optional chimpanzee habituation experience where a traveler spends more time with the Chimps ‘’four hours’’.
Location;
Kibale National Park is found in Kabarole district in western Uganda region, located in nearest beautiful town of Fort portal which is found within Kabarole district. This town has a big population of the Batoro tribe who have their king’s palace lied at the heart of this fort portal town.
The park is home to more than 70 forest wildlife mammals including; the buffaloes, forest Elephants and some species of antelopes. However, it is habitat of the 13 species of primate amongst which include the endangered chimpanzees. Kibale forest is also home to approximately 375 bird species thus ranking the park as one of the top birding destination.
Chimpanzee trekking;
This is quite a memorable activity which starts early in the morning at 7am with a briefing at the park headquarters and after meet up with the park ranges to lead you through searching forest trails. While trekking expect to see other species like Red colobus monkey, Pottos, Grey-cheeked mangabey, Black and white colobus, Uganda mangabey, Uganda red colobus among others. This activity can take about 30 to 5 hours trekking.
Once you allocate them you will be given an hour to spend with them in their natural habitat.
Chimpanzee Habituation Experience
This is incredible activity which is done full day along with 4 hours given to you to spend with chimpanzees. The chimpanzees trekked are fully habituated and they undergo for about 1 to 3 years training process. After the park rangers and researchers notices that they can have eye contact with humans. They introduce the group of gorilla to the public for tourism. Chimpanzee habituation experience involves in collecting sample of chimpanzees.

What is the cost of Chimpanzee trekking &Habituation?
Fortunately, the Uganda wildlife Authority have revised the Uganda Chimpanzee Permit Prices for the next two years – from 01st July 2024 -30 June 2026, a newly updated prices will come into effect which includes an increase to the Uganda Chimpanzee permit price.

The cost of the permit for chimpanzee tracking in Kibale Forest has increased to;
300USD from previous USD250 for all international visitors.
USD250 from previous USD200 for foreign resident.
UGX250,000 from 200,000 for East African Citizens.
