Under the ‘’UWA’’ Uganda Wildlife Authority policy, the minimum age for Gorilla trekking is limited at 15 years and above. Those below that age is considered a minor or child thus not fitting to trek the mountain gorillas in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park but it is still possible that a child below 15 years can trek gorillas in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest.

More so, children or minors   are not allowed to trek gorillas in Bwindi in order to avoid weird circumstances for example – a child may decide to make noise or run which may result into gorilla’s threat or charge to visitors.

Therefore, are many reasons why children below 15 years are not allowed to trekking mountain gorillas in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park due to the fact that children may have communicable diseases which can easily be transmitted to these endangered mountain gorillas. Yes, humans and mountain gorillas almost share the same genes, disease like cough and flue which can easily be transmitted. Other reason is that the trek can sometimes be hard as Bwindi is hilly, it can be slippery and the surface is rough which kids may not be able to contend with it.

What is required to allow a 14-year-old child to trek gorillas?

A traveler with children of 14 years old wanting his child to do gorilla trekking   must be wondering, whether they also pay the same gorilla permit price as for the adult to do gorilla trekking. Most of the time children are grouped with their family they visited with for the gorilla trek in the forest for easy management and care of their parents.

More fact, visitor’s valid passports will be reviewed to ensure minor, remember that minors are not allowed to trek the gorillas and if found that the child is a minor – you won’t be allowed to trek the mountain gorillas even when you have a permit secured. Furthermore, children who are minors can travel with their parents on safari and be left at the hotel or can opt to participate in guided nature walks and community walk.

Any parent wanting his kid of 14 years old to participate will need to sign a waiver in order to allow the child to go for gorilla trekking. How to book Gorilla trekking with a 14-year-old child.

A visitor will be required to secure your gorilla permit for you to be allowed to go for Gorilla trekking with a 14-year-old child in Bwindi or Mgahinga National Park.
