Horse Riding Safaris in Uganda : Lake Mburo National Park
Lake Mburo National Park is one of the most remarkable national parks for a horseback riding safari in Uganda. The park is located along the Masaka -Mbarara highway and is the only game park among the ten ‘’10’’ Uganda National Parks that is close to Kampala Uganda’s capital city which is the starting point of most safaris.
The park stretches through an area of about 370 square kilometers and is dotted with many lakes and beautiful hills. It is home rich with antelope species and the most spotted animal species includes; zebras, hippos, impalas, warthogs, African buffaloes, common eland, Jackal, Leopards as well as bird species including; Bare-faced go away bird, Saddle-billed stork, Papyrus gonolek, Red-faced barbet, Black-bellied bustard, Yellow-rumped tinker, African finfoot, Greater painted -snipe, Hairy-breasted barbet, Mosque swallow, Papyrus gonolek, Brown-chested lapwing, Blue-headed coucal, Blue-breasted kingfisher, white-winged swamp warbler, Tabora cisticola mentioned few.

We recommend you wear long trousers and strong shoes with a bit of a heel if possible.
Horseback riding in Lake Mburo National Park is done according to your experience and ability in riding the horse. The beginners and inexperienced riders are recommended to walk while on the horse’s back as you tour the park.
The expert riders are allowed to race for long stretches for trotting and as you ride through the park to the water hole where you get to encounter herds of buffaloes. Those to experience the ride can be offered adjustable helmets of all size and riding chaps courtesy of Mihingo Lodge, on each ride a maximum of six guests gets involved in the ride and all rides are accompanied by at least one experienced horse guide. Although most time they can be 2 horse guides accompanying the ride.
Take note; The maximum weight to be carried on horses at Mihingo Lodge is 100 kilograms but most horses cannot carry more than 85 kilograms. So do not be offended when your weight excludes you from being part of this impressive safari.

Before getting on the back of the horse; always make sure you wearing proper horse-riding gear.
You need a lot of confidence
Be gentle and free with the reins
While on the horse sit upright and get relaxed comfortably.
While riding the horse do not hold the saddle horn
Keeping your eyes, a head where you are to ride
Make sure you take full control of the horse
Stay in the same tune as your horse
Greet your horse before mounting it
Use your whole body to guide the horse
