New Habituated Gorilla Families
New Habituated Gorilla Families have been added to Bwindi forest National Park so that they can accommodate more trekkers in a day. With the introduction of new gorilla families in Uganda, the gorilla trekking experience has got to be more diverse and fascinating. Uganda, the pearl of Africa is a real treasure when it comes to having a high number of endangered primates i.e. the mountain gorillas. It is a home to over 400 mountain gorilla individuals which is the largest gorilla population in Africa with the rest in Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo but in a smaller population. Gorilla trekking in Uganda has never got better than it is right now, Uganda Wild Authority life declared two new habituated gorilla families ready for trekking as an addition to the already existing 13 habituated gorilla families in Bwindi impenetrable national park and Mgahinga gorilla national park to make 15 gorilla families currently open to visitors intending to engage in the astonishing gorilla trekking.
Uganda the pearl of Africa receives a great number of tourists with the intention of gorilla trekking and experience a great opportunity of being in the presence of huge fur covered apes of the jungle. Gorilla trekking in Uganda is less expensive when compared to Rwanda’s gorilla trekking. The Rwanda Gorilla Trekking permit costs US$ 1500 and Uganda’s permit goes for US$ 600 but will later be 700 usds from june 2020 which makes Uganda’s demand to be on an increase daily. The main intention of opening up these new gorilla families by the Uganda Wildlife Authority is to address the high demand for gorilla trekking tickets. Uganda Wildlife Authority has been issuing 8 gorilla trekking permits for each gorilla family with a total of 104 gorilla permits daily which were insufficient to meet the demand by tourists. As additional to the already existing gorilla families, the newly declared gorilla families opened to receive visitors are Christmas and Katwe and they are both found in Bwindi impenetrable national park but in different sectors of Nkuringo for Christmas and Buhoma for Katwe.
There can never be any more interesting news to tour operators and gorilla trekking fanatics than opening up new mounting gorillas groups of Christmas and Katwe, the new families have undergone through the gorilla habituation process for three years. The habituation process is carried out by specialists/ professionals as a way of making wild mountain gorillas be comfortable with the presence of people. Mountain gorillas are generally shy gentle animals but when they get irritated they can be harmful which is so important for a tourist to remember while gorilla trekking.

Christmas Gorilla Family
Christmas gorilla family is found in the Nkuringo sector which found in the southern region of Bwindi impenetrable national park. Christmas gorilla family is additional to Nkuringo and Bushaho gorilla family making now three present gorilla groups in the Nkuringo sector which raises the number of permits issued by the Uganda wildlife authority to 24 permits daily. Christmas gorilla family of 9 members is headed by a dominant silver back in the names of Christmas who is believed to have been born Christmas 25th of October. The family has 3 adult females, 3 black backs and 2 juveniles and 1 silverback but only 6 members are usually sighted playing in the woods of southern region of Bwindi impenetrable national park.
Katwe Gorilla Family
Katwe Gorilla Family is found in the Buhoma gorilla sector in the northern sector of Bwindi impenetrable national park. Formerly buhoma sector had 3 gorilla families that are Mubare, Habinyanja and Rushegura and with the inclusion of Katwe it now harbors 4 gorilla groups and this has led to the increase of gorilla trekking permits issued by Uganda wildlife authority from 24 to 32 per day. Katwe gorilla family is made up of 7 members with 1 silverback, 2 babies and 4 adult females. Katwe gorilla family adds more fun to the gorilla trekking experience in the Buhoma sector.
Gorilla trekking in the new gorilla families is fascinatingly different since both sectors have different terrains. While trekking in Nkuringo gorilla sector accommodation and food services can be got from Clouds mountain gorilla lodge, Nkuringo Bwindi Lodge, Lake Kitandara camp, Silverback Lodge and many more. Accommodation in Buhoma is offered by Buhoma community camp, Bwindi forest lodge, Trackers safari lodge Bwindi, Crested Crane Bwindi, Gorilla valley lodge, Bwindi Community Guesthouse, Lake Mulehe safari lodge and many more.
